Buying a container home can set you free

Through experience and learning from my choices, I’ve grown. The world is as it is, and we must accept it. However, that doesn’t mean we can’t shape it to better place to suit our own goals and needs.

I once met an elderly person who was facing the difficult situation of losing their home due to the increasing costs of upkeep. I suggested that perhaps they could use their home to generate some income with a small investment. He shared his concerns about his health and other issues. I then mentioned a student in medical school who needed housing while she was studying. I introduced them, and it turned out to be a perfect match. John, the elderly gentleman, took out a home improvement loan and put a container home in his backyard, providing housing for the student. In return, she often took care of him. John had enough from the rent to cover the increasing costs of his property. I once received a call from a family who owned land in the Mt. Hood area. They’d always dreamed of building a home, but the high costs of building and materials had held them back. I asked them if they’d be interested in doing it for less than the price of a good used car. I showed them a plan to create a custom solution. One challenge was that bringing power to their location would be expensive. So, we suggested a solar-powered home. Another issue was the lack of cell phone service, so they got a satellite phone. The plan also included ideas for collecting rainwater and a solution for disposing of green waste. The family was thrilled with what we offered them.
